Our Honda generator would not start so we called them. We quickly received a call back from the owner. He offered to pick up the generator from our house since he was driving our direction anyway. Within an hour of him picking it up he texted us pictures of the sludge in the gas tank. He repaired it and had it ready the next day. The owner demonstrated the working generator, gave my husband some advice on storage and drove the generator back to our house because my husband was in his car. Everything from response time, to knowledge, to the extra step of bringing the generator back to our house is indicative of the approach he takes to the business. The employees were helpful, amiable and customer service oriented as well. Shop local, Shot Freret Hardware!

This review is long overdue, but I haven’t been on Yelp in some time. This place rocks! And the owner is amazing!! Get this… Back in 2012, Hurricane Isaac was set to hit on a Tuesday evening. That morning I called every Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware store within a 3 hour drive and not one store had generators. Then I found Freret Hardware online and sure enough, they had a few left. After work I raced over there to purchase one. They were in the middle of boarding up and closing their store. The owner asked me what I wanted to power with the generator. When I told him the list, he said I would need special converters to make everything work. So while the store was in the middle of closing, he took 30 minutes of his time and built a few customized cables to accommodate my needs! Then he asked me my address.

A few minutes after I got home with the generator, he showed up at my house. He went through and connected all of his custom cable work to make sure everything was working properly. Talk about over the top customer service?!?! And all of this with this hurricane just a few hours from hitting land! And he wouldn’t even accept a tip. Unbelievable!!

I always went to the big home improvement stores thinking that they had everything. The problem these days is that at most of these places the employees don’t really care as much anymore.

When you pay a visit to Freret Hardware things are a bit different! The staff there is very knowledgeable and take enough time to actually show you exactly where things are located and answer any questions you might have. This is very important to me and my coworkers. I will continue to shop all my supplies at Freret Street Hardware! Thanks to the entire staff for being who you are!

A 1937 customer

Mr. Jung, founder of the hardware store, was never too busy to stop and give a hand to the neighborhood kids with skates and bikes. He always had parts on hand for us even though there was not much profit in it for Freret Hardware.

That was in the 1930’s. When I was grown and married , I lived around the corner on LaSalle. The family store never changed …the customer is treated in a manner that makes them special. Drop in, you’ll see what I mean.
